We have been told that it can be very windy. True?

We have been told that it can be very windy.  True?

The trade winds, our natural air conditioning, blow about 70% of the year.  Those winds are typically 10-15mph from the east-northeast, but can sometimes be a little blustery in the 20-25mph range.

The winds are usually much lighter during the winter months December-March, when breezes are lighter and often from the south and southeast.

Any part of the island will experience these wind patterns.  If your concern is blowing beach sand, most of the beaches you'll be visiting will be somewhat protected by their surroundings.  Papohaku Beach, the west end 3-mile beach, will be the exception.  Your best bet is to visit there early in the morning if the forecast is for trade winds.
